The study tour is one of the minors offered by the University of Twente. For the members of student association Stress, there is a unique possibility to join the module. The subject of this year's study tour is "Innovation and Sustainability within Supply Chain Networks". This involves optimizing a system of organizations, people, activities, information, and resources from the supplier to the customer. The destination will be Shanghai, because the most advanced supply chain networks in the world are operating there. Participants of the study tour are going to visit several companies and doing cases to see how supply chains really work in practice. Besides that, the selected students of the studies Industrial Engineering & Management and International Business Administration are going to do research within the subject. They are also going to do some cases within companies, consult when possible and experience the Chinese (business) culture. Basically, the study tour module is devided in three parts as described below.
In the first six weeks of the module the students will attend a lot of lectures, (real) cases, workshops, company visits and assignments. Furthermore, the students will do research on several aspects of innovation and sustainability within supply chain networks and create interviews which will be conducted during the trip in Shanghai. Besides the curriculum, there will be given some lectures about the cultural aspect of the destination as well.
The trip to Shanghai will last about two weeks. We will be in Shanghai from the 8th of January until the 22nd of January. There is a possibility of going to Shanghai earlier to travel upfront. During the trip we will visit a number of companies where we will conduct interviews about the aspects of innovation and sustainability within supply chain networks. Sometimes we will work on (real) cases as well. In between those visits we will go to some intresting places to experience the Chinese culture.
After the trip there will be two weeks left to conclude the research and write a brilliant report. This report will be checked and graded by the teachers. When the report is marked as sufficient the students will earn 15 credits and they will have had a journey of a lifetime! The reports will be sent to the partners of the study tour.
